No. The devices use their own GSM data transmission for payment and telemetry. All they need is cellular network coverage and 230V power supply.
Most freestanding models (Mini Lux, Midi) are stable, but for safety reasons we recommend anchoring to the ground (cube, spout), which is the standard installation procedure.
