What are the types of medal machines? Differences between models in simple language

Summary

Faced with the decision to introduce the sale of commemorative medals in their facility, many managers feel lost. At first glance, all vending machines look similar: a metal box, a coin filler, a glass window and a merchandise feeder. In reality, however, the differences between the various models are as great as between a city car and an off-roader. Both have four wheels and a steering wheel, but one will be great in a tight parking lot under a store, while the other can handle mud and snow. The same is true of our appliances. Choosing the wrong model - for example, putting a delicate office machine on a windy pier - is a simple recipe for failure. In this article, in plain language and without technical jargon, we'll take you through the world of GW Souvenirs vending machines, explaining how the different types differ and which one will be ideal for your business.

Basic division: where will the machine stand?

Before we get into specific model names, we need to understand the most important division in the vending world: Indoor (Indoors) versus Outdoor (Outdoor). This criterion determines the „heart” and „skin” of the machine.

Indoor vending machines are devices designed to work in room conditions. They like temperatures around 20 degrees, no humidity and a roof over their heads. Their housings are lighter, and the electronics do not have additional frost protection. They are ideal for the lobby of a museum, gift store or hotel corridor. They tend to be cheaper and smaller.

Outdoor vending machines, on the other hand, are „tanks” for special tasks. They are designed to survive rain, snow, dust and extreme temperatures (from -20 to +40 degrees Celsius). How do they differ on the inside? They have a „winter package” - a system of heaters and thermostats that acts as central heating for the electronics. When it's freezing outside, the inside of the machine is heated so that the mechanisms don't freeze and water doesn't condense on the motherboards. In addition, they have special gaskets (as in windows) and canopies to protect them from the driving rain. If you plan to put a vending machine in a parking lot, at the entrance to the zoo or at a viewpoint - you need to choose an Outdoor model. Placing an Indoor model there will end up with corrosion and short-circuiting after the first rain.

Model review: From „Maluch” to „Giant”

GW Souvenirs offers four main model lines. Each of them responds to different spatial and logistical needs. Let's take a look at them one by one.

1. SMALL COINMAT - Clever Gecko

This is our smallest device that solves the perennial problem of „lack of space.” In many historic ticket offices, small stores or observation towers, there is simply nowhere to put a large cabinet.

The SMALL model is a vending machine that can be hung on the wall. It works like a hanging cabinet in the kitchen - it does not take up an inch of the floor. It is flat (it has a small depth), so it does not obstruct traffic in narrow corridors. Despite its inconspicuous size, it holds as many as 700 medals. It is an ideal choice for medium-traffic areas, where every square meter is at a premium. It is often chosen by lighthouses, small regional museums and tourist information centers.

2. MIDI COINMAT - Elegant Model

If you have some floor space, but care about aesthetics and modern design, MIDI is a hit. It's a „Slim” type vending machine - it's tall and very narrow.

Its greatest advantage is its design. It looks sleek and modern, blending well with the interiors of hotels, philharmonics, science centers or modern museums. It is not a „block” that disfigures the lobby. It holds 1,000 medals, which is standard enough for a long time without service. Thanks to its vertical design, the control panel and merchandise display case are at an ergonomic height, comfortable for both adults and older children. This is the model most often chosen for Indoor prestige locations.

3. MINI LUX - Workhorse.

The name can be misleading, as it is not a small automatic at all. „Mini” rather refers to its compact body compared to the largest machines on the market. It is our bestseller and the most versatile machine on offer.

The MINI LUX model is a „compact car” that will work well in 90% cases. It is lower and wider than the MIDI, which gives it great stability (it is difficult to tip over). It holds as many as 1,600 medals. That's a powerful reserve that allows for less frequent service visits. Importantly, this model comes in a full outdoor version. It is armored, heavy and sturdy. It has a distinctive illuminated „top” (upper part), which acts like a beacon, attracting the eyes of tourists from afar. If you are looking for a machine to stand outside, by the main boardwalk, in an amusement park or at the zoo - this is your choice.

4th BIG COINMAT - Warehouseman

This is the largest machine in our stable. Created for places where the flow of people counts in the thousands per day - airports, giant aquaparks, main entrances to the country's biggest tourist attractions.

Its superpower is capacity: 2,000 medals. Why is it so important? Imagine a sunny Sunday at a popular dinosaur park. 5,000 people pass through the gates. A smaller vending machine would have emptied in the middle of the day, requiring the intervention of the service (which can get stuck in traffic). The BIG COINMAT will „swallow” this traffic without a stammer. Its design is massive, further deterring vandals. It also has a large flat area on the housing, which can be used as an advertising billboard for your facility.

What sits inside? Technologies explained

Regardless of the model you choose (Small, Midi, Big), there are components inside that determine the efficiency of the device. Let's explain the three most important terms you may encounter in the specifications.

Hopper (Publisher)

This is the heart of the vending machine. The hopper is the mechanism that physically „spits” the medal into the receiving pocket. In old vending machines, medals were stacked (poles), which often led to jams when one medal was crooked. In GW Souvenirs vending machines, we use modern „loose” hoppers. The medals are poured loosely into a large container (like coffee beans for a coffee machine), and the motor and rotary disc retrieve them themselves. This solution is practically trouble-free - there are no jams, no blockages.

Telemetry (Your Spy)

It is a „brain” connected to the Internet. Each of our vending machines can be equipped with a GSM module (such as in a phone). This allows the machine to „call home”. What does this give you? You don't have to go to the vending machine to see if there are still medals. You log on to the website on your phone and see: „Zoo vending machine - stock: 350 pieces, sale today: PLN 200.” What's more, if the facility's electricity goes out, you get a text message alert. This is technology that saves your fuel and your employees' time.

Payment Terminal (Cashless)

Just 5 years ago, a coin filler was the standard. Today it is not enough. Our vending machines are in fact small self-service kiosks. Instead of looking for change, the customer brings the card, phone or watch close. The terminal connects to the bank in a fraction of a second and authorizes the transaction. Why is this important? Because people spend more when they pay with „plastic.” They are not limited by the amount of coins in their pockets. A vending machine with a terminal earns an average of 30-40% more than the same cash-only machine.

Summary: How to choose?

The choice of a vending machine should not be random. Before you make a decision, answer three simple questions:

Do I have a roof over my head and heating? If yes - choose the cheaper and lighter Indoor versions. If not - be sure to invest in armored Outdoor versions with a heating package. Saving at this stage will pay off the first winter.

How much space do I have? If you have a narrow hallway or just a piece of wall - take SMALL or MIDI. If you have a yard, a parking lot or a large hallway - take the sturdy MINI LUX or BIG.

How many tourists do I have? If you operate an intimate museum (up to 50 people a day), SMALL is enough. If you manage a stadium or a huge amusement park - only BIG COINMAT will give you peace of mind on weekends.

Remember that a vending machine is an investment for years. At GW Souvenirs, we do not sell a „cat in a bag.” Our consultants are happy to come to your site, measure the available space, assess the weather risks and select the model that will work most effectively for you. Because vending is not about putting up any machine, but about putting up the right one.
